Culture Works invites members of the community to apply to serve as panelists for the 2020 Community Arts Grant program, which provides general operating support grants for Dayton Region arts organizations.
The funds for these grants are raised through Culture Works’ annual Campaign for the Arts, which draws support from individuals, businesses, and foundations. To ensure a fair and equitable grantmaking process, applications for funding are reviewed by an independent grant panel of up to eight panelists.
Grant panelists are selected based on their knowledge of and experience in the arts, business and nonprofit management, and the community. Panelists review and score the applications and discuss them at a public grant panel meeting held in May. The averages of the scores from panelists are used to determine the funding each organization receives.
Key Dates for 2020 Panelists:
- January 1 – May 21, 2020: Grant panelist site visits take place
- April 17, 2020: Grant applications available for panelists to begin review
- May 28, 2020: Grant Panel Meeting, 8:30am to 1:30pm (tentative)
Additional information regarding the requirements and expectations for grant panelists can be found here: Grant Panelist Fact Sheet.
Being a grant panelist provides an opportunity to learn more about local arts organizations and to become engaged in making important decisions regarding financial support of the arts in the Dayton Region. Prior panelists report that they enjoyed having the opportunity to network with fellow panelists, all of whom share an interest in the arts.
Culture Works is providing two opportunities to submit an application to become a grant panelist:
If you are interested in serving as a panelist, please fill out the Grant Panelist Self-Nomination Form and return it to Culture Works via email, fax, or by postal mail at the address provided on the form.
If you would like to nominate someone you know to serve on a panel, complete and return the Panelist Nomination Form.
The deadline to submit all nominations is Friday, December 27, 2019.
Because of the limited size of the panel, not all nominees can be selected to serve on the Community Arts Grant panel, but Culture Works will consider all nominees for future cycles and for other grant panels and committees. For more information, please contact Culture Works at 937-222-2787 or kmaner@cultureworks.org.
