The Dayton Amateur Radio Association is an association of radio amateurs, organized for the promotion of interest in Amateur Radio communications and experimentation, for the establishment of networks to provide communication in the event of disasters or other emergencies, and for the advancement of the radio art and of the public welfare. DARA is the sponsor of the Dayton Hamvention® and earns its operating revenue from this event. The funds are used for scholarships, education, disaster-relief, and public service events.

FilmDayton is the region’s full-service non-profit film commission. A film commission creates jobs and economic growth by promoting and supporting movie production. FilmDayton serves as the Miami Valley’s industry advocate, connecting productions to our local infrastructure: location scouts, casting agents, film crew, and property suppliers and pitching our region’s location strengths. FilmDayton works to strengthen the region's production appeal by hosting classes, workshops, and networking meetings to build local film services. In addition, FilmDayton also advocates for funding, tax credits, and legislative support for new filmmaking in Ohio and the Dayton Region.

The Historic Plaza Theatre originally opened in 1919 and remained a community icon for nearly 50 years until it became a western retail store in 1968. Following the closing of the store in 2002, the theatre stood vacant until it was beautifully restored and reopened in 2015. Now, visitors to the theatre can enjoy a diverse range of films from all eras.
