The Culture Works Board voted at its January 2016 meeting to increase the amount earmarked from Campaign for the Arts funding for smaller budget organizations receiving Community Arts Development grants.
Historically, Culture Works has authorized 3% of the funding raised through the Campaign for the Arts to be used to support organizations with budgets between $100,000 and $499,999. Effective with the 2016 grantmaking process, this amount will increase to 4%.
“We have some outstanding cultural organizations in our community with budgets in this range,” said Steve Petitjean, Culture Works Board Chair and Senior Vice President & Retail Market Manager of Fifth Third Bank.” Providing an increased percentage of Campaign for the Arts funding to these organizations is reflective of the important role that they play in our community’s cultural ecosystem. We also hope this will encourage more organizations in this budget size to apply for funding.”
The Culture Works Board also voted in the January meeting to modify the Funding Formula adopted in 2014 to eliminate multipliers for budget size in grant computations for Community Arts Development grants. The Funding Factor for General Operating Support grants remains unchanged.
“It was felt that the small range of budget sizes included in the Community Arts Development grant category did not really support having a multiplier,” said Martine Collier, Culture Works President & CEO. “Grant amounts for Community Arts Development organizations will now be decided solely on the basis of the score that the organization receives from the Grant Panel during the Public Grants Meeting.”
